DEMONSTRATIONS

In order to promote the Affirmative Consent Policy at Kent State University, student organization Students Against Sexual Assault planned and implemented several demonstrations across campus.

The picture to the left below depicts a demonstration starring a fence and a sign which says: "Tie a bow for anyone affected by sexual abuse." The sign then designates those affected by sexual assault to tie a blue bow, domestic abuse to tie a purple bow, stalking to tie a black bow, and allies of those affected by power-based personal violence to tie a white bow.

The picture in the middle below depicts a demonstration meant to--at least somewhat--obscure the biggest walkway at Kent State. Four mattresses were placed in the middle of Risman Plaza with a sign stating: "You didn't tell us to put these mattresses here, but you didn't say not to. Silence does not equal consent." This demonstration truly got to the heart of consent--a lack of a "no" does not make a "yes".

The final picture on the right is of a series of pictures taken to show the difference between consensual and non-consensual encounters. Each picture was based on a quote from a collection of true stories from Kent State students regarding their experiences' with sexual assault. To view the pictures and the stories, visit our Gallery
